1) Practice. Rain or SHINE!! When you come to practice be ready to run. If you are not dressed or did not bring your shoes then you’re absent. If you can't finish a workout for whatever the reason be sure and let your coaches know. For your own safety always stay on the assigned route, never adjust to your own workout. If you miss a practice you will not compete in the next race, but will be required to be there to assist your coaches and teammates. Missing a few practices will lower your grade. Anyone who continuously misses practice will be dropped and will, most likely, earn a grade of F.
2) Injuries. If an athlete is injured, he or she is still required to attend practice dressed in workout clothes. A coach will send the athlete to the trainer at an appropriate time. The athlete is to return from the trainer with a note explaining the status.
3) Racing. Races are most Thursdays and Saturdays. Athletes are expected to attend even if they can’t run due to an injury. If you miss a practice the week of a race you will not race that week but will be required to be there to assist your coaches and cheer on your teammates. Athletes are required to attend every race unless they receive prior written permission to miss a race from a coach. If you become ill the night or morning of a race your parent must call me at 714-848-0656 x4813 and leave a message prior to the race. Missed races will result in a lower grade and/or a drop.
4) Physicals. All athletes must have a physical to practice and compete. If you need a referral to a doctor, please talk to one of the coaches.
5) Academics. You will be required to turn in a progress report, weekly. If you are struggling in a class notify a coach immediately. The later we find out this information the less we can do. Below passing grades will affect eligibility to attend Mt. SAC. Also, before attending Mt. SAC, each athlete must attend a Mandatory Study Session the day before (Thursday) the meet, during practice. Athletes will be required to ask for and write down all assignments, tests, and quizzes that will be due the Friday they will miss class. During the study session, athletes must complete all assignments, tests, and quizzes that are due that Friday, in order to be eligible to attend Mt. SAC. REMEMBER, you need to be passing all classes, as well.
6) Personal Items. It is not safe to leave bags and books unattended on the track during practice. Keep items locked in your locker. We will not be responsible for items left on the track or stolen.
7) Bus/Transportation. All athletes are required to take the bus/vans to the meets. For each meet, all athletes are required to stay until the end of the last race. If it is a home meet (OVHS is the host) all athletes are required to stay until the course materials have been collected.
A parent may take his or her own son or daughter home from the meet with coach’s consent; after all races have been completed and/or home course has been cleared of all equipment. A parent may not take home any other athletes from meets.
8) Athletic Supporters. Boys, make sure you either wear athletic supporters, or athletic briefs. Boxers are unsightly (visible) and not conducive to comfortable running. Girls, make sure you wear a bra made specifically for running. Regular bras do not provide enough support.
9) For Your Safety and Protection. Athletes, under no circumstance, are allowed to run with iPods or other electronic devices that could distract them. Also, we are running at the hottest time of the day, so wear SUNSCREEN. When standing at a corner, waiting for a light to change, do not place yourself at the very edge of the curb. Stand far enough back that even if a car might clip the curb, it will not hit you. You may ONLY cross the street if there is a pedestrian sign flashing. If the light is green, but there is a red hand flashing, DO NOT cross the street. Wait for the next green light and pedestrian sign. Finally, when crossing curbs in residential areas, make sure it is safe to do so; look left, right, look at opposing traffic, and behind you.
FENCES: At no time are athletes allowed to climb the fences on the OVHS campus. If a gate is not open, athletes MUST wait for a coach to unlock it. If you must get onto campus, before the coach can unlock the gate, you may safely run around Home Depot and enter the OV campus from the Warner parking lot. Please see Rules of the Road for more safety information.
10) Membership. If you are removed from the team by the coach, or you voluntarily quit, you will not be eligible for future team participation and your final grade will, most likely, be an F. Reminder: If you are a freshman or a sophomore, you will be required to attend your PE class, every day.
